Statute of Limitations

What it means

The legal deadline for filing a lawsuit. Once the deadline passes, the right to sue is generally lost forever, regardless of the merits of the claim.

Arizona context

Arizona’s statute of limitations for personal injury is two years from the date of injury (ARS 12-542). Different deadlines apply to claims against government entities (180 days notice, 1 year to sue) and minors (clock starts at age 18).
